I'm quitting (again) this week - it will be the 5th time I've quit over about a 20 year period.

Cool Dawn, welcome and YOU CAN DO IT!

Quitting is so negative. So, you have "quit" 4 times previously. My friends always told me I never quit smoking. I always just quit buying.

This time you are beginning a new and healthier life.

To cope with the cravings, head to the store and buy every flavor of Extra Sugarfree gum they sell, and keep one or two packs of each flavor handy, even if it means getting a bigger purse to carry twenty packs of gum around.

At your trigger times, like getting in a car, after a meal, grab that gum and hang on. Try to mix up the flavors during the day so you don't get sick of peppermint, peppermint, peppermint all the time, or wintergreen, wintergreen, wintergreen.

This tactic worked for me, helped me to kick a 10-year pack-and-a-half-a-day smoking habit almost four years ago, cold turkey. Haven't touched a cig since.
