Re: Your Quit Date?
Thu, January 15, 2004 - 10:41 AMThanks for your support. Today is day 4 and so far no problem. I've got this part down pretty well from all of my previous quits. My big concern is the week-end. I'm avoiding a gathering of friends tonight because I know there will be wine flowing and possibly some smokers in the crowd. However, tomorrow I will be in a situation I can not avoid - again with alcohol and smoke (at least kept outside, thankfully for me and my cravings). So far my only thoughts on that are sticking with water and soda instead of beer and wine, and drinking it out of a straw as somebody mentioned earlier. I think the straw will help with the hand/mouth fixation.
I'll let you know how it goes.

Sun, March 7, 2004 - 2:17 PMJanuary 25, 2004. I almost died in an awful car accident so I decided this would put me on the edge to quit. I've cheated a bit, but for the most part I'm hanging in. -

Re: Your Quit Date?
Thu, May 13, 2004 - 7:47 PMCongratulations Jules! Stick with the water bottle... it works. I had to pee all the time when I was quitting, but it was worth it. I think it's better to replace smoking with a water bottle versus candy or shooting up or something.

Re: Your Quit Date?
Sat, June 19, 2004 - 11:44 AMHey everybody....
I'm new to this tribe, but I'm happy it's here.... I quit on September 22, 2003...... In just a few days that'll make 9 months!!! It does get better, but I do still have the occasional psychological craving.... I smoked for 18 years and just before I quit I was up to 2 1/2 packs a day so this is a major accomplishment on my part.... It hasn't been easy..... -

Re: Your Quit Date?
Thu, November 18, 2004 - 1:25 PMI consider my quit date to be Sept. 18, 2001, just over three years ago. I quit cold turkey, using sugarless gum as a substitute for cigarettes. Smartest thing I've ever done, I think. -

Re: Your Quit Date?
Wed, December 8, 2004 - 8:16 PMi feel like a punk seeing jim's post, but fuck it. my first day not smoking was october 24,2004. i have a close friend to thank for that. she began living here and is a non-smoker. after smoking around her for a bit, i decided it was a shitty thing to expose her to smoke daily before sleeping. so i stopped. and i am glad for it's benefits i get to receive. i would have quit if i was left alone.thank you, amber aka ruby jumpercables.
stay well,i have faith in us all to "get over it" -k.

Re: Your Quit Date?
Thu, March 24, 2005 - 7:26 AMHey everybody, kinda new to tribe.net. Anyway, I quit smoking back on 2/27 of this year, after smoking since I was about 15 or 16. I honestly don't know what finally clicked in my head to quit smoking, but something did (a moment of sanity, perhaps?) and I'm glad it did. There's nothing magical about quitting, I don't think. It just takes a lot of determination and willpower...and support! -

Re: Your Quit Date?
Thu, March 24, 2005 - 11:21 AMAfter smoking for 30 years (OMG!), I quit cold on August 26, 2003. One day after my 25th wedding anniversary. I was sick as a dog and could not breathe. Thought I was gonna die. -

2 years and 8 months ago
Sun, April 22, 2007 - 2:38 PMHi all - just joined here. My quit date was August 23, 2004. I gained about 40 lbs within 8 months of quitting - oops........well...........I quit the second I found out I was pregnant! I guess after 8 months of pregnancy and 15 months of breastfeeding, the urge is gone. Pregnancy was a great quitting program - took the cheating element out of the picture since it was no longer just my body.
Its nice to not have to be tied to a pack of smokes. My husband still smokes though but since I quit, he smokes maybe half as much as before. I don't pester him to quit because that's the best way for him to up his consumption.
I am thankfully not a born again non-smoker...the kind who, after quitting, walks up to a smoker and says, "you really should quit," or, "Do you know how bad those are for you?" I used to hate when recent quitters would do that to me so I pledged not to do that to others.
I am just thrilled to be free of cigarettes. Funny thing though, I don't mind the smell when others are smoking...it makes me nostalgic of my teenage years when I started to smoke but there is zero desire to have one now.

Re: Your Quit Date?
Sun, May 13, 2007 - 10:01 PMI quit again on May 10th 2007. yup, 3 days ago. Ive quite before for 9 months at time, couple of times.
My approach is to keep it positive. Dont punish yourself and up the guilt factor if you fall off the wagon.
just get up, dust yourself off, climb back on that wagon and hold on for the ride....
I kinda feel like im at a meeting
*Hello, my name is Valentina and Im addicted to cigarettes.......*
Im so glad I found this tribe, thank you all.... -
