Your Quit Date?

topic posted Tue, January 13, 2004 - 12:14 PM by  Unsubscribed
As I've posted before, Mike S. and I quit on July 5th. Over six months.

Post your quit date below, and then we'll all chime in with supportive things like, "Wow! Three months! WAY to go!"

Also, Mo -- one day at a a time! The first four days are the hardest! Keep your chin up! Soon it will be your first week and then before you know it you, too will be celebrating 6 monhts of smoke free, healthy living.

      I banish thee, O Nicodemon!!!!

Thanks for your support. Today is day 4 and so far no problem. I've got this part down pretty well from all of my previous quits. My big concern is the week-end. I'm avoiding a gathering of friends tonight because I know there will be wine flowing and possibly some smokers in the crowd. However, tomorrow I will be in a situation I can not avoid - again with alcohol and smoke (at least kept outside, thankfully for me and my cravings). So far my only thoughts on that are sticking with water and soda instead of beer and wine, and drinking it out of a straw as somebody mentioned earlier. I think the straw will help with the hand/mouth fixation.

I'll let you know how it goes.

August 16, 1992 for me. Went cold turkey from a 2 pack/day habit and managed to survive that without doing anyone in!

    Congrats to everyone!

    Hey everybody....

I'm new to this tribe, but I'm happy it's here.... I quit on September 22, 2003...... In just a few days that'll make 9 months!!! It does get better, but I do still have the occasional psychological craving.... I smoked for 18 years and just before I quit I was up to 2 1/2 packs a day so this is a major accomplishment on my part.... It hasn't been easy.....

I quit on May 19th, 2004.... so we are right past one month.
I know it is not that much time, but I have smoked on and off for the past ten years (I am getting good at quiting - hoping this time I don't start again).

I consider my quit date to be Sept. 18, 2001, just over three years ago. I quit cold turkey, using sugarless gum as a substitute for cigarettes. Smartest thing I've ever done, I think.

i feel like a punk seeing jim's post, but fuck it. my first day not smoking was october 24,2004. i have a close friend to thank for that. she began living here and is a non-smoker. after smoking around her for a bit, i decided it was a shitty thing to expose her to smoke daily before sleeping. so i stopped. and i am glad for it's benefits i get to receive. i would have quit if i was left alone.thank you, amber aka ruby jumpercables.

stay well,i have faith in us all to "get over it" -k.

Hey everybody, kinda new to tribe.net. Anyway, I quit smoking back on 2/27 of this year, after smoking since I was about 15 or 16. I honestly don't know what finally clicked in my head to quit smoking, but something did (a moment of sanity, perhaps?) and I'm glad it did. There's nothing magical about quitting, I don't think. It just takes a lot of determination and willpower...and support!

After smoking for 30 years (OMG!), I quit cold on August 26, 2003. One day after my 25th wedding anniversary. I was sick as a dog and could not breathe. Thought I was gonna die.

Hi all - just joined here. My quit date was August 23, 2004. I gained about 40 lbs within 8 months of quitting - oops........well...........I quit the second I found out I was pregnant! I guess after 8 months of pregnancy and 15 months of breastfeeding, the urge is gone. Pregnancy was a great quitting program - took the cheating element out of the picture since it was no longer just my body.

Its nice to not have to be tied to a pack of smokes. My husband still smokes though but since I quit, he smokes maybe half as much as before. I don't pester him to quit because that's the best way for him to up his consumption.

I am thankfully not a born again non-smoker...the kind who, after quitting, walks up to a smoker and says, "you really should quit," or, "Do you know how bad those are for you?" I used to hate when recent quitters would do that to me so I pledged not to do that to others.

I am just thrilled to be free of cigarettes. Funny thing though, I don't mind the smell when others are smoking...it makes me nostalgic of my teenage years when I started to smoke but there is zero desire to have one now.

I quit again on May 10th 2007. yup, 3 days ago. Ive quite before for 9 months at time, couple of times.
My approach is to keep it positive. Dont punish yourself and up the guilt factor if you fall off the wagon.
just get up, dust yourself off, climb back on that wagon and hold on for the ride....
I kinda feel like im at a meeting
*Hello, my name is Valentina and Im addicted to cigarettes.......*
Im so glad I found this tribe, thank you all....
